Former commissioner of police Francis Forbes has been appointed interim head of the Trinidad-based Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS).

IMPACS executive director, Lynne Anne Williams, has been sent on leave with immediate effect until an audit is completed to probe the agency’s operations.

The audit was commissioned by the CARICOM Council for National Security and Law Enforcement.

The Council says following the completion of the audit, full financial audits of the institution covering the period from its establishment in 2006 to 2010 will be undertaken.

CARICOM national security ministers met on Tuesday to consider the recommendations of the national security council following a preliminary investigation into the agency.

The probe followed a Trinidad Express newspaper report claiming acts of misappropriation of funds and other fraudulent accounting practices at the regional institution.
