Labour Minister, Pearnel Charles, is reporting that the Hurricane Dean relief bill has been cut with the discovery of several irregularities.

According to Mr. Charles the bill has been reduced by more than $14.4 million.

Mr. Charles said an assessment by his Ministry revealed that the benefits to more 32 households were duplicated.

200 houses that were reported to be completely destroyed were only severely damaged.

Mr. Charles reported that the householders will now receive hurricane relief funds based on the level of damage to their houses.

According to the Labour Minister, only officers from his ministry will distribute the relief cheques.

Over 3,000 households have already benefited from the relief programme.

Payments to households that suffered minor damage is scheduled to begin in 2008.
