West Indies captain Chris Gayle has resumed training and is hoping to be fit to play in the first Test match against South Africa in Port Elizabeth on Boxing Day (December 26).

The Jamaican left-hander is now practicing in the nets. He has also resumed catching, running and stretching exercises.

Gayle has been out of the game since December 2 when he injured his right hamstring in the second One-Day International against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.

A decision will be made on the eve of the first Test.
