Minister says no fare increase

The transport minister, Mike Henry is warning that taxi and bus operators could lose their licenses if they illegally increase their fares.He is appealing to commuters to inform his office of any fare increase over the holiday season.

The transport minister says he has not had any application for a fare increase. As a result, he says operators should not charge commuters more for transportation. Mr. Henry says he has instructed the Transport Authority to monitor the system to ensure that there are no breaches

There have been widespread reports of illegal fare increases on a number of routes.
