Thousands gather for Simpson Miller’s Swearing-in
Thousands of people including overseas dignitaries, civic and business leaders have flocked the grounds of King’s House, the official residence of the Governor General, for the swearing-in Portia Simpson Miller as Prime Minister of Jamaica.
Simpson Miller was sworn in as Jamaica’s seventh Prime Minister on March 30, 2006 and served for 18 months before the People’s National Party lost the 2007 general election to the Jamaica Labour Party.
More than 8,000 people have been invited to participate in the ceremony.
Under the beaming afternoon sun, the guests started taking their seats from early this afternoon for the ceremony which is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
