Michael Peart to be House Speaker

The Gleaner/Power 106 News has learned that the Member of Parliament for South Manchester Michael Peart is to be appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives.



However, it is not yet clear when the first sitting of Parliament will be held.



It is also not clear who will be appointed deputy speaker.



Michael Peart, who has been the South Manchester MP since 1993 served as deputy speaker from 1997 to 2002.



When the People’s National Party was returned to power following the 2002 general election he was promoted to the position of Speaker



It’s yet to be seen who will be appointed president of the Senate.
