71-y-o seriously injured in vehicle collision, taxi driver to face court

A 52-year-old taxi operator is to appear in the Traffic Court tomorrow on three charges following a motor vehicle collision this morning which left a 71-year-old woman seriously injured.

The taxi operator, Alvin Mitchell has been charged with dangerous driving; disobeying a traffic light and causing death by dangerous driving.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network are that about 7 a.m. Mr Mitchell was driving along Retirement Road when he disobeyed a traffic light and collided with another motorcar. The driver lost control of the vehicle and ran into a bus stop in which the 71-year-old woman, who has been identified as Violet Lynch, was standing and pinned her to the wall.

Ms Lynch, who was on her way to church, was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Both drivers have been served with warning notices. The Cross Roads police are investigating.
