Five NSWMA senior managers step down

Minister of Local Government Noel Arscott has confirmed that five senior managers at the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) have opted to resign.

However, Mr Arscott has dismissed claims by the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) that their departure contributed to the delays in putting out the fire at the Riverton City Landfill last week.

JLP Spokesman on Local Government Desmond McKenzie claimed during a press conference yesterday that seven senior managers with experience in fighting fire at the landfill were dismissed after the December 29 General Election.

Mr Arscott says the five senior managers who chose to exercise the exit clause in their contracts were not involved in the operational side of the NSWMA.
