Troublemakers fingered in attack on President Michel Martelly
Haitian authorities have blamed troublemakers for the attack on President Michel Martelly as he walked in a Carnival procession yesterday.
Martelly was not injured in the incident, but a statement issued by the National Palace blames troublemakers who had taken refuge in a nearby university for the attack.
Yesterday’s attack led to clashes between students and supporters of the Haitian President, resulting in damage to cars and other property.
The Red Cross says it had to provide a bus to safely evacuate about a dozen university students from Canada, France and Brazil who were attending a conference with Haitian students.
Two months after his inauguration, protesters lobbed rocks and soda bottles at Martelly’s entourage as they walked through a street in Cap-Haitien, Haiti's second largest city.
