The St Catherine North police say a new road will be cut through Gravel Heights in St Catherine to give law enforcement officers easier access to the community.

The disclosure was made during today’s tour of volatile communities in the division by National Security Minister Peter Bunting, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington and chief of defence staff, Major General Antony Anderson.

Head of the division, Senior Superintendent Anthony Castelle says the road will

connect with the Tredegar Main Road.

He says the roadway is expected to be completed within another two weeks.

Both the communities of Gravel Heights and Tredegar Park have had regular flare up of violence including multiple murders.

In December 2008 residents of Gravel Heights were forced to flee the community following threats from thugs.

In the meantime, the national security minister has joined the police commissioner in appealing to former residents of Gravel Heights to return to the area.

He has sought to assure that the community is now safe following the setting up of a permanent police post.
