Trinidad PM calls in her MPs

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday summoned the MPs of the People’s Partnership, local government representatives and senior party officials to a meeting at her home, days before she faces a no-confidence motion in Parliament.

It’s reported that the closed-door meeting, which lasted for approximately two hours, was the first of four planned this week.

Media reports say the Persad-Bissessar administration is working out strategies for debate of the motion filed by Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley in the House of Representatives on Friday and Saturday.

Works and Infrastructure Minister Jack Warner and Congress of the People political leader Prakash Ramadhar were reportedly absent.

The Opposition Leader argued that the Prime Minister has been incompetent, has failed to stimulate the economy and create sustainable employment, and has been unwilling to act in the best interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, while failing to effectively manage officers under her control.
