Transport Ministry to meet with JUTC

Minister of Transport, Mike Henry, is today expected to have dialogue with chairman of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, in an effort to resolve pay related matters between the state owned bus company and its employees.

The University and Allied Workers Union, UAWU, wrote to the Transport Minister on Monday requesting his intervention.

The union complained that workers were facing embarrassment and hardship as a result of the failure of JUTC to pay over deductions to various lending agencies and service institutions.

Mr. Henry says he will be working to have the matter resolved urgently.

The union says some employees were faced with court action from financial institutions for failure to repay outstanding money owed. The union also claims that Christmas savings have not been paid over to various institutions.
