Dalley to meet horseracing stakeholders
Stakeholders in the horseracing industry are to hold talks with the Minister without portfolio in the Finance and Planning Ministry, Horace Dalley today, as he tries to prevent another cancellation of live racing this Wednesday.
Representatives from the owners, breeders, trainers, farriers, grooms, jockeys and off-track associations are expected to attend the meeting which starts at 4 p.m.
The meeting was scheduled after major players in the sector, including trainers and owners, decided not to run their horses.
Dalley had earlier met with bookmakers who had protested for two weeks in a dispute with Caymanas Track Limited over rights fees.
However, other stakeholders say the move by the Minister was unfair because they had been seeking a meeting with Finance Minister Dr. Peter Phillips for the past five weeks without success.
Dalley expressed disappointment with what he called the unfortunate action to cancel the races, but said today’s meeting will seek to resolve the impasse in order to ensure racing resumes on Wednesday.
