One of two men who allegedly fired at members of a police team was fatally shot on Barnett Lane, St. James last night.

The dead man has been identified as Robert ‘Jerry’ Solomon, of Montego Bay.

The police said they were on patrol shortly after 9 p.m. when they signalled a motor car to stop.

Two men reportedly alighted the vehicle and ran in separate directions.

The police said they gave chase and one of the men pulled a gun and pointed it at the officers and was shot.

An illegal 9-millimeter pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition was reportedly taken from the injured man.

He was then taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he died while being treated.
