Jamaica’s highways again saw a decline in usage last year continuing a trend which began in 2008.

In its annual report, the Toll Authority said there was a 5 per cent decline in total daily usage of the Vineyards, Portmore and Spanish Town toll roads in the 2010/2011 financial year when compared with the previous year.

It said on average 48,172 vehicles used the toll roads daily in the last financial year, while the previous year had a daily average of 50,708 vehicles.

The Toll Authority said the Portmore toll continued to account for the highest average usage with 33,254 vehicles using that thoroughfare daily.

The Vineyards had 9,793 vehicles daily and the Spanish Town toll registered 5, 125 vehicles daily.

However, the Toll Authority said despite the decreased usage the there has been a consistent growth in income.

It said the revenues totalled $3.03 billion in the 2010/2011 financial year compared to $2.9 billion for 2009/2010.
