LIME calls rate ruling a major victory

Managing Director of LIME Jamaica & Cayman, Garry Sinclair, says today's court decision in favour of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is a major victory for Jamaicans.

Sinclair was reacting to the court's denial of Digicel’s application for an order to stay the implementation of the OUR-set termination rate for mobile calls.

Digicel, also lost in its bid for the court to review the OUR’s decision.

“This is indeed great news for all Jamaicans who need, and frankly, deserve the lower mobile calling rates that we have championed,” said Sinclair.

“We responded to the OUR's lowering of termination rates by immediately dropping our mobile prices to the lowest in Jamaican history and our people reacted very positively.

Digicel responded by taking the OUR and the Government to court."

LIME says the next important step towards a truly levelled playing field is the implementation of Number Portability so that Jamaicans can keep the number but switch mobile service providers.
