Chairman of the All Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association, Allan Rickards, says he’s expecting to see an improvement in sugar production during this crop period compared with last year. Production has started at the Frome Sugar factory and Mr. Rickards is expecting that that factory will see an increase in production.

Mr. Rickards is optimistic that sugar production will increase from 164 thousand tones to 170 thousand tones once the factories operate on a consistent basis. According to Mr. Rickards, the sugar quality is expected to improve if the current favourable weather condition continues.

Mr. Rickards says he’s expecting production at the Appleton and Worthy Park factories to begin on January 7,2008 and at other factories by the end of January.
