The American footballers Tuesday night recovered from Friday’s loss to Jamaica's Reggae Boyz to win 1-0 in Ohio.
The goal was scored in the 54th minute by Herculez Gomes from a free kick.
Earlier, the Americans dominated the first half but never managed to score.
In the first 36 minutes of play, the US made seven shots at goal with three hitting either the upright or the crossbar.
Jamaican goalkeeper, Dwayne Miller, in acrobatic fashion kept out a shot that was headed for goal around the 20th minute and seconds later, he was called into action again and he delivered.
In another attempt, a Danny Williams shot for the USA hit inside the post and bounced out as the Americans continued to dominate.
So commanding was their control that Reggae Boy Ryan Johnson, for example, got his first touch after 26 minutes.
And when the Jamaicans got the ball, they did not keep possession for lengthy periods.
At the half time break, US coach Jurgen Klinnsman told his players that they had to push harder.
“All Jamaica is doing is slowing things down, playing for time, seeing if they can get a red card,” Klinnsman said on television.
The win for the Americans has now put them atop the group on goal difference even though they are tied on seven points with Guatemala and Jamaica.
Also playing Tuesday night, Guatemala won 1-0 against Antigua and Barbuda.
