ODPEM urges residents to be vigilant

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), is urging citizens to seek safety before the situation in their communities becomes dangerous.

ODPEM’s warning comes as clean-up efforts are underway across the island, following reports of flash flooding and near disaster due to the weekend’s heavy rains and bad weather.

ODPEM’s Director General, Ronald Jackson, said areas such as Frazier’s Content, Red Pond and Big Pond which are all located in St Catherine are usually some of the worst hit areas.

He is warning residents of those areas to be vigilant.

Jackson is hoping weather conditions improve but he wants the public to be aware that some communities will be further affected if the rains continue.

He says some rivers are swollen and could burst their banks if the weather doesn’t improve.

Nevertheless, he is seeking to assure that teams are already on the road doing an assessment of the damage.
