JFLAG remains optimistic about buggery law repeal
The Jamaica Forum for Lesbians All-Sexuals and Gays (JFLAG) remains optimistic the Portia Simpson-Miller administration will honour its commitment to repealing the country’s buggery law.
Yesterday, the Minister with responsibility for information, Sandrea Falconer, said the matter has been discussed at Cabinet but it’s not high on the priority list because the government wants to focus on the economy.
The executive Director of J-FLAG, Dane Lewis says he’s not disheartened that the Cabinet is yet to get around to the issue.
Last year during the leadership debate, then Opposition leader Simpson-Miller said her administration was committed to the protection of human rights.
Simpson-Miller had also said it was time for a review of the buggery law, saying she believed the issue should be put to a conscience vote in the parliament.
