Digicel reverts to old voicemail system

Digicel says it will be reverting to its old voicemail system following complaints about the one introduced recently.

The office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) had given the company until Thursday to respond to complaints that calls to Digicel phones were going directly to voicemail before even ringing.

The OUR said this was depleting the call credit of customers without giving them a chance to hang up before the voicemail kicked in.

In a release yesterday, the OUR said Digicel said it recognised that some of the changes it implemented were not agreeable to customers and has decided to revert to the familiar voicemail welcome and retrieval greetings.

The company has also agreed to embark on a voicemail information campaign in the press and social media.

It says this will include details on how to set up or disable voicemail, as well as confirm the charging policy of the voicemail system.

The changes are to be implemented by February 1.
