The Police Commissioner Owen Ellington says he is doubtful about the claims that last night’s shooting incident at the Jamaica Police Academy was an accident.

According to Ellington, since the incident at 11 p.m. last night, individuals who held responsibility for the training are yet to provide an account of what happened.

“This is raising doubt in my mind about any theory of an accident and it is causing me concern as to whether there is any attempt to cover up what occurred,” Ellington told a press conference this morning.

The Police Commissioner has also ordered that the instructors who were leading the firearm training be interdicted.

“On the face of it, there were breaches of procedures,” Ellington said.

Twenty-year-old constable Ricardo McKenzie was shot dead and four other male constables and a female constable – all attached to the Mobile Reserve – injured during the incident.
