The National Works Agency says work is underway on the new bridge to replace the Ford in Kintyre St. Andrew.

Senior Communications Officer Colin Morrison says work began late in December.

He said the Bridge and river training designs have been submitted to the National Environment and Planning Agency for approval.

However, he says the NWA has instructed contractors China Harbour Engineering Limited, not to demolish the ford before the Jamaica Public Service Company relocates high tension wires.

He says the project is being done under the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme at a cost of $100 million.

He says the agency is working to complete the project within the next four months.
