Fire of unknown origin destroyed sections of a tobacco factory in May Pen, Clarendon this morning.

The blaze, which completely gutted a large section of the Glenmuir Road base tobacco factory, destroyed a large amount of cured tobacco, corrugated tobacco's boxes, machinery and other equipment before the Clarendon Fire Service was able to put out the blaze.

The Clarendon Fire service, informed The Gleaner that from the fire brigade's preliminary investigation, the building belongs to a Lee Gore and was insured.

However, the fire brigade was unable to say what caused the fire, or the estimated value of the damage.
