KINGSTON, Jamaica:

A police corporal has explained at the Vybz Kartel murder trial how Andre St John and Shane Williams, two of the five accused, were arrested in the investigation of the August 2011 murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Corporal Heather Forrest told the court that on September 30, 2011 she and other police personnel went to the Altamont Court Hotel in New Kingston and took St John and Williams into custody.

She also said two cell phones were taken from them.

Meanwhile, Joseph Simmonds, an official from telecommunications company Digicel is now on the witness stand.

Simmonds is Group Business Risk Director for Digicel.

He told the court that his duties include fulfilling the company’s obligations under Telecommunications Act.

He said this includes providing customer information to authorised persons and entities such as the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the National Security Ministry.

Today’s resumption of the trial in the presence of the 12-member jury comes after several weeks of in-camera hearing ended yesterday.

Yesterday, Supreme Court judge Justice Lennox Campbell, who is presiding at the trial, ruled to allow the jury to be presented with evidence including that taken from mobile phones.

Along with Williams and St John, Kartel is jointly charged with fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell also known as Shawn Storm and Kahira Jones, for the August 16, 2011 murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Williams was allegedly killed in relation to two missing guns.
