KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing yesterday rescued two men who had been missing in the Cockpit Country for three days.

The JDF says Fabian Stennett and Ainsley Medley left their homes in Tangle River, St James on Monday destined for Accompong Town in St Elizabeth.

The men reportedly were journeying by foot and planned to take a route through the Cockpit Country when they got lost, disoriented, tired and dehydrated.

The JDF says contact was made with the army and the men were given instructions about how to secure themselves until help arrived.

It says a mission was launched yesterday morning by the air wing and the men were spotted seven miles northwest of Accompong Town.

The JDF says the men used smoke to signal the aircraft to their location.

It says they were then pulled into the helicopter and flown to Elderslie in St Elizabeth where they were reunited with family before being taken to a health care facility for precautionary medical attention.
