JUTC to bus operators: No licence, do not operate

Published:Monday | April 7, 2014 | 5:38 PM

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it will be taking a zero tolerance approach come tomorrow, when its new sub-franchise system is fully implemented.

Communications Manager Clinton Clarke is reminding operators that if they don’t have a licence they will not be allowed to operate.

He says the 319 sub-franchise operators who were successful in their application for a licence were rolled out in the Kingston Metropolitan Region today in addition to 400 JUTC buses.

However, he says so far, only 319 sub-franchise operators have complied with the new stipulation which requires them to paint their buses yellow.

Clarke says those operators who have not painted their buses will be liable for prosecution.

He maintains that the colour coding is a very important to the success of the new sub-franchise system.

Clarke maintains that the operators will not be granted a further extension to regularise their operations.
