Ebola fight: Guinea closes borders with Liberia and Sierra Leone
Guinea has closed its borders with Liberia and Sierra Leone as it seeks to contain the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.
The move comes as figures released by the World Health Organisation (WHO), show that Liberia and Sierra Leone accounted for 64 of the 68 new cases of Ebola recorded up to Wednesday.
However, the WHO says no new cases have been reported in Guinea, where the current outbreak began.
Speaking during a press conference today, Guinea’s health minister Remy Lamah said the decision to close the borders with Liberia and Sierra Leone was based on information received from both countries.
According to the WHO, the current Ebola outbreak has resulted in 959 deaths across the three countries.
