FOOTBALL: Good news for Tivoli Gardens FC

Published:Tuesday | August 12, 2014 | 9:19 AM

Desmond McKenzie, Member of Parliament for West Kingston, has given an assurance to supporters of the Tivoli Gardens FC that the club will be participating in this season’s Red Stripe Premier League.

The assurance came a few days after club’s president Edward Seaga pulled the team from the country’s top flight competition because of financial constrains.

Seaga, in a release on Friday said the club had fallen short of the amount of funds targeted to finance the team in the Premier League because of a fall-out of major sponsorships due to economic stress.

However, McKenzie says he has had dialogue with Seaga about the situation and an announcement on the matter will be made soon.

McKenzie says the parties involved will be doing whatever that needs to be done to ensure that Tivoli remain in the competition for this year.

The new season of the National Premier League is set to begin next month.

Tivoli have won five Premier League titles.
