ATHLETICS: Botswana's Montsho B Sample confirms positive drug test

Published:Wednesday | August 13, 2014 | 12:00 PM

Former 400-metre world champion Amantle Montsho faces a two-year ban after her B Sample drugs test from the Commonwealth Games came back positive.

The 31-year-old Montsho had been provisionally suspended after her A Sample failed a doping test following the 400-metre final.

The Botswana athlete, who finished fourth, has until August 22 to appeal to the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).

The CFG has passed its results to the relevant international federations, who could ban Montsho from competition.

Mike Hooper, chief executive of the CFG says the athlete has been notified of the findings.

The CFG only has power to disqualify Montsho from the Games following her positive test for banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

However, if found guilty at her hearing, Montsho will be referred to the World Anti-Doping Agency and other relevant authorities for further sanctions.
