KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The Office of the Governor General says Custos of St Mary, Jeffrey McKitty, is on eight months personal leave, dismissing reports he has resigned.

King’s House made the statement in response to reports that the St Mary Lay Magistrate’s Association was incensed at recommendations to replace the Custos.

In an emailed response to questions from The Gleaner, Maxine Francis, Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Governor General, said there is no truth to the reports of a resignation.

It’s understood that McKitty’s request was approved last week.

King’s House said it will announce an acting Custos "in due course".

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen appointed McKitty as Custos last year.
