KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The Police have charged 33-year-old Kevin Dunchie, the man who disarmed a policeman and used his gun to shoot two people in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew earlier this month.

Dunchie, who is of no fixed address, is believed to be of unsound mind.

He is charged with two counts of shooting with intent, illegal possession of firearm, larceny and assault at common law.

He is booked to appear in the Gun Court next week.

It is reported that on Sunday August 3, a policeman was on duty in Half-Way Tree when he was disarmed by Dunchie.

The police say Dunchie used the gun to fire several shots, hitting two civilians.

An off duty policeman reportedly responded and opened fire hitting him.

The firearm was retrieved and all three individuals were taken to hospital.
