Anti-smoking regulations compliance deadline for businesses tomorrow

Published:Friday | August 15, 2014 | 5:37 PM

Businesses have until tomorrow to ensure that they are fully compliant with the government’s anti-smoking regulations.

Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson, who championed the move to ban smoking in public spaces last year, is urging businesses to comply with the requirements.

Among other things, the Public Health (Tobacco Control) Regulations set guidelines for the packaging and labelling of tobacco products, graphic health warnings, and the advertising of tobacco products.

Ferguson says there will be major consequences for businesses such as hotels, clubs and bars if they are still in breach of the regulations after Saturday.

He says the Ministry will be working with the police to ensure the regulations are adhered to.

The Health Minister says he has no doubt the regulations are for the good of the country.
