The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) is spearheading an anti-harassment initiative geared at maintaining order, safety and security in resort areas.

The initiative will be led by a National Anti-harassment Task Force.

TPDCo’s Executive Director, Dennis Hickey, says efforts are also being made to streamline the operations at the ports to address issues of harassment in the transportation sector in the tourism industry.

Hickney told JIS news that discussions are being held with the Transport Authority and other stakeholders on measures to tighten the licensing system.

He says the Task Force, which will receive assistance from the police, was established as one of the measures to bring jet ski operations under better management.

At present all jet ski operators have to be registered with the Maritime Authority of Jamaica and obtain proper licences.
