National report: Students' academic performance below par
The National Education Inspectorate (NEI), says its latest report indicates that in a large number of schools, students have not attained the minimum academic standards.
The NEI's latest study shows that of 129 schools inspected in the last year, 79 were ineffective.
It says more primary schools were assessed as unsatisfactory compared to their secondary counterparts.
With 803 schools inspected since September 2010, the NEI, says the trend is not likely to change.
The NEI says this means that there is sufficient evidence to show that the level of performance across the education system is mostly mediocre.
The report says there is urgent need to ensure requisite links between pedagogical practices and the national curriculum.
