FOOTBALL: Reggae Girlz move closer to World Cup qualification
Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz have moved a step closer to secure a spot at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
The Reggae Girlz got closer to World Cup qualification after advancing to the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship in the United States.
That championship will determine the Confederation’s World Cup representatives to the World Cup.
The Reggae Girlz booked their spot after whipping Bermuda 9-1 last night in their second Group A match of the inaugural Caribbean Women's Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.
The winner and runner-up from both Group A and Group B will earn places at the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.
Haiti joined Jamaica in the CONCACAF Women's Cup from the group following a 4-1 victory over Puerto Rico.
The final set of matches in the group will take place tomorrow with Jamaica facing Haiti in a top-of-the-table clash, while out of contentions Puero Rico and Bermuda will face off.
Group B games are scheduled to continue today at the Hasely Crawford Stadium when St Kitts and Nevis face Martinique at 5 o'clock and Trinidad and Tobago entertain Antigua and Barbuda at 7:15.
