Met Office monitoring area of low pressure

Published:Saturday | August 23, 2014 | 6:38 PM

We begin with news this evening that forecasters at the Meteorological Service are monitoring an area of low pressure in the Caribbean that is expected to produce heavy rains over southern parishes tonight into tomorrow.

Forecasters say those showers are expected to spread to northern parishes later tonight.

The Met Service says based on the rainfall activity tonight a decision will be taken by 4 o’clock tomorrow morning on whether to issue a warning to marine interests.

Up to this afternoon forecasters say the area of low pressure was close to Hispaniola and predicted there is an 80 per cent chance it could develop into a named storm within the next 48 hours.
