Killings in Canaan Heights disgraceful - Security Minister

Published:Sunday | August 24, 2014 | 10:29 AM

National Security Minister Peter Bunting has urged rival gangs in the community of Caanan Heights, Clarendon to bring an end to their hostilities.

The appeal comes as police statistics show that there have been 10 reported murders in the community since the start of the year.

This accounts for 20 per cent of the 50 murders reported across the entire parish.

Speaking during a tour of Caanan Heights on Friday, Bunting called the numbers disgraceful and unacceptable. He pleaded with the warring factions to allow the children of Caanan Heights to grow up without the sound of gunfire as their constant companion.

The security minister says if the community cannot unite for change, its growth and development will be stunted.
