Montserrat political parties nominate candidates for general election
Montserrat’s two main political parties yesterday nominated candidates for all nine constituencies in the September 11 general elections, with each party political leader confident of victory.
Premier Reuben Meade said his ruling Movement for Change and Prosperity, which first came to office in 2009, deserves another opportunity to complete the work it started.
He described the party’s chances at the polls as extremely good, adding that voters would be reminded of the party’s track record and achievement over the past four years.
According to the Caribbean Media Corporation, Opposition Leader Donaldson Romeo said he too was equally confident that the the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) would be victorious on September 11.
The election in the volcano ravaged British Overseas Territory will also be contested by the Alliance Party, headed by former premier Dr Lowell Lewis.
It is fielding just three candidates.
