St Elizabeth goat thief weeps in court, sentenced to six months

A St Elizabeth man wept in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday after he was sentenced to six months in prison at hard labour for praedial larceny.

Rohan Gordon was also ordered to pay back $20,000 for stealing goats belonging to an elderly woman.

Before handing down sentencing the complainant asked Resident Magistrate Chester Crooks to be lenient.

RM Crooks told Gordon that he would take the request into consideration, but said he still had to send a strong message against praedial larceny as the matter was getting out of control in the parish.

The magistrate then sentenced Gordon to six months in prison instead of one year.
