Expect delays on Helshire main road starting tomorrow

The National Works Agency (NWA) says over the next three weeks, starting tomorrow, motorists should expect traffic delays along the Hellshire main road, in St Catherine.

This is because the NWA will be constructing a detour route to bypass a defective bridge, located along the Hellshire main road near the Braeton intersection.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the NWA had reduced the bridge along the Hellshire main road, to single lane traffic earlier this year, due to a subsurface failure.

"This situation has now worsened, resulting in a huge hole in the bridge deck," Shaw said.

He noted that the construction of the detour route, set to be completed on the weekend of September 20, is part of plans to replace the bridge.

The NWA is urging motorists travelling along the Hellshire main road to proceed with caution and observe the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
