NWA builds detour for Hellshire main road

Published:Sunday | August 31, 2014 | 8:45 AM

The National Works Agency (NWA) is reminding motorists who use the Hellshire main road in St Catherine to brace for delays as it commences construction of a detour route to bypass a defective bridge along the corridor.

The NWA says the bridge, which is located about one kilometre from the Braeton intersection, experienced a sub-surface failure earlier this year and has got worse in recent days.

As a result, manager for communication and customer services at the NWA Stephen Shaw says the detour route is being constructed ahead of works to replace the bridge.

Construction of the detour route is expected to take up to three weeks, after which the Hellshire main road will be closed to allow for the bridge to be replaced.

The NWA says motorists should proceed with caution and observe the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs during the period of works.
