A collision along the Dunn's River main road in St Ann left two women dead and several motorists stranded for hours last evening.

The crash occurred some minutes before 7:00 p.m. when a black Mitsubishi motor car and a Toyota Corolla route taxi collided along the thoroughfare.

The police's Corporate Communications Unit reports that the Mitsubishi motor car was travelling along the roadway with passengers aboard, when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the taxi, which was travelling in the opposite direction with several passengers aboard.

The crash resulted in the deaths of 37-year old Latoya Davis of Chalky Hill, St Ann and Marsha Ferguson of Fraserwood, St Mary. Both women were pronounced dead at hospital while undergoing treatment. The other passengers in both vehicles were also taken to hospital.

The incident resulted in miles of gridlock in both directions, which caused delays of up to two hours for some motorists.
