JLP caretaker wants NEPA to probe St Thomas chlorine leak

Published:Tuesday | September 2, 2014 | 12:29 PM

Jamaica Labour Party Caretaker for St Thomas Eastern Delano Seiveright is calling for the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) to swiftly investigate yesterday’s chlorine leak in St Thomas.

The leak forced the closure of some businesses and schools and saw dozens being taken to hospital for medical attention.

The leak was caused by the release of fumes from an old gas cylinder on the compound of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority in the parish.

Seiveright says more needs to be done by the authorities to monitor the storage as well as the disposal of items which can be harmful to the public.
