JUTC extends cashless system deadline

Published:Saturday | September 6, 2014 | 6:29 PM

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has extended by another week its move to a fully cashless system.

It says all passengers can use cash to pay bus fares until September 13.

Meanwhile, the JUTC says issuing of Smarter Cards for concession passengers is now going smoothly and they will now experience little difficulty when picking up their cards.

The JUTC has said card distribution has been bolstered at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre with the addition of eight more distribution windows bringing the number up to 17.

It says cards may also be obtained at the Spanish Town Bus Park and the JUTC offices at East Parade in downtown Kingston.

And it says its offices will also be open tomorrow to facilitate the issuing of cards.

There have been long lines and chaotic scenes at JUTC offices as commuters rush to get the smarter cards.
