The police say the swift action of security guards led to the removal of a pistol and eight rounds of ammunition from a man on Howard Cooke Boulevard, St James yesterday.

The Freeport Police say about 3:30 yesterday afternoon, the security guards were on their routine patrol, when they came up on a group of men on motorcycles at the intersection of Howard Cooke Boulevard and Barnett Street.

They say one of the men pulled a firearm and fired a shot, and the team of security guards gave chase.

The alleged gunman was accosted and the firearm and ammunition were taken from him, however, the police say he managed to escape.

The illegal firearm and ammunition were later handed over to the Freeport Police.
