It is National Breastfeeding Week

Published:Sunday | September 21, 2014 | 10:28 AM

This week is being observed as National Breastfeeding Week and the Ministry of Health says a number of activities have been planned to bring awareness to the importance of this practice.

Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal for Life is the theme for this year’s activities, which the ministry says will happen at both the national and parish levels.

Seeking to underscore the importance of breastfeeding, director of nutrition at the health ministry, Sharmaine Edwards, says sharing knowledge and experiences across cultures, genders and generations will enable a wider outreach.

As a result, the health ministry says the activities will be geared towards offering ongoing support to mother and families.

The national events got underway yesterday with a church service at the Andrews Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church.
