Portia failed to list failures in PNP address, says Henry
Public affairs commentator Martin Henry says People's National Party president Portia Simpson Miller was forgetful of failures as she listed her Administration’s successes at yesterday’s party conference.
He says it is not typical for political leaders to highlight areas that are not impressive on major political platforms.
However, the commentator says Jamaicans are facing what he calls substantial pressures that make it necessary for all areas to be highlighted.
Henry says Simpson Miller neglected to speak on the poor condition of public infrastructure, the devaluation of the Jamaican dollar and the creaking public health system.
Regarding the key industry of agriculture, Henry says with the removal of European preferential treatment on certain products, the entire sector is moving in a negative direction.
He says political talk is not sufficient to improve the future status of agriculture without what he calls radical re-working of Jamaica’s position on the world market.
