SQUASH: Liguanea Club Tournament begins today

Published:Monday | September 22, 2014 | 12:04 PM

Veteran player Wayne Burrowes and reigning All Jamaica and Caribbean Under-19 boys’ champion Julian Morrison head the list of players down to contest the 2014 Liguanea Club Open Squash Tournament.

The weeklong tournament takes place at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston, beginning later this afternoon at 5 p.m.

Morrison enters the tournament in good form after retaining his national title recently.

However, he will receive stiff competition from Burrowes, who is the country’s most dominant male player with 13 All Jamaica titles.

Lining up to challenge the top two players are the All Jamaica and Caribbean Under-19 champion, Ashante Smith and All Jamaica Under-17 champion, Tahjia Lumley.

The tournament will utilise a handicap format to enable competitive matches.

In addition, male and female players will go head-to-head, as the competition will have a single, gender-neutral draw.
