Two more Portmore councillors sworn in

The People’s National Party’s majority in the Portmore Municipal Council has been increased with the swearing in of two more councillors today.

Claude Hamilton was this morning sworn in as councillor for the Portmore Pines Division while Michael Edwards took his place as councillor for the Greater Portmore North division.

The swearing in was presided over by Returning Officer for Portmore Aston Messam.

Both men had been elected in the 2012 local government elections but were unable to take their seats in the municipal council because of an anamoly resulting from boundary changes ahead of the last general elections.

This meant that although they were duly elected, they could not represent those they serve at any committee meeting of the municipal council.

Instead they were forced to attend the St Catherine Parish Council.

Their swearing in as councillors came after constant petition from several committees and interest groups in Portmore who deemed their absence as a disservice to their divisions.
